In 2017, the Mutur Beltz Association created the First Good Living Artistic Residency with the aim of expanding the space for reflection, debate and dissemination regarding the state of the world of sheep and shepherds in Karrantza from the perspective of art; offering spaces and moments for the shepherds and shepherdesses from the valley to live together with artists. Three artists were invited to participate in this first edition, enjoying many experiences including: visits to different farmhouses, getting to know the environment, meeting with shepherds, a day of sheering, etc. Through this experience of coexistence, each participant completed an artistic project that was shown later in different spaces relating to the world of art, as well as sheep farming and tourism. The year 2018 saw the continuation of the work carried out, with the Mutur Beltz Association presenting the Second Good Living Artistic Residency in Karrantza, which will take place during the first week of April. In this second edition, the organisation is offering a grant aimed at local and international projects that support the Karrantza Valley's rural community through artistic practice. For one week, the chosen artist or collective will live together with Mutur Beltz Association members and two other artists invited by the organisation. Projects are accepted up to 20 March 2018. The Mutur Beltz Association is committed to supporting these types of circuits as strategic spaces for action, raising awareness both among a general public that is unaware of the problems of the rural world and in a rural environment that is marginalised from current cultural production. It also allows reflection on the role of art in the face of paradigm shifts involving the dichotomy between art and craftsmanship, cult and mainstream popularity, rural and urban contexts, etc., based on research, musings and innovation arising out of reflection and creative experimentation.
